After years of producing ceramics from her home studio Terry changed direction, sold her kiln and wheel and enrolled onto a drawing class tutored by talented local artist Reg Smith. Following years of these excellent but very structured sessions the desire to add colour, expression and light led her to join Leigh artist Peter Smith’s expressive oil painting group - a group she still attends today.

 

Peter’s encouragement to paint with bold brush strokes and to eliminate unnecessary detail resonated with her along with words of wisdom that still continually echo in her ears.

 

Some years later she was introduced to acrylics by the professional artist Soraya French. Terry immediately recognised that this quick drying flexible medium was the answer to her desire to layer paint and experiment with texture whilst still continuing to paint with the bold expressive marks she enjoyed. Heavy bodied acrylics have been her choice of medium ever since.

 

Terry has been a successfully selling member of the cooperative for the last eight years and has exhibited and sold locally and around the county. The subjects she paints are eclectic but her recognisable modern impressionist style remains constant.
